Joseph Holmes, a Berkeley-born landscape photographer who’s been publishing fine art prints since the late 1960′s, joins us today to share his photography tips for shooting raw image files. Similar to photographic negatives, raw digital images have a wider dynamic color range and minimum loss of information. He talks about five advantages for shooting in raw over JPEG files and discusses how this will improve the quality of your final images.

Shooting photos in raw image format requires a reliable memory card with a large storage capacity, since raw files can easily be five times larger than JPEG files. That’s why Joseph only uses SanDisk cards in his cameras–he knows the raw files will be stored in pristine condition and be ready for editing once he gets home.
