Photojournalist Neal Menschel - Tips from His Career in Photojournalism

Welcome to the Marc Silber Show - Advancing Your Photography! Today we interview Neal Menschel, a famous photojournalist whose work has taken him around the world, from presidential elections to the fall of the Berlin Wall. His photos have been published in Newsweek, the Christian Science Monitor, and many other publications throughout his career in photojournalism.
Neal Menschel describes his routine for documentary shoots. He considers himself a journalist first, so for every shoot, he looks for stories that speak to the human heart and he gets to know his subjects as much as possible. Being prepared means being familiar with his equipment, and in his ten years of digital photography, he's shot with SanDisk memory cards and never had a problem.
His advice for freelance photographers is to become an insider in every situation; get close to your subject and then take another step closer. Good photojournalism requires passion, and as with all photography, the key to getting better is to keep taking more photos!
