Advertising photographer Stan Musilek joins Marc Silber to talk about his photo shoots and the techniques he uses to capture such stunning images. Stan operates two studios, one in San Francisco and another in Paris. In this video, we will join him in San Francisco on a fashion shoot and learn about his editorial and personal photography styles.
When he’s not busy with commercial photography, Stan enjoys sketching out ideas for his own personal projects. It is easier for him to experiment when he has an idea in mind and when there are no constraints on the message produced. Instead of solely relying on photo editing, Stan likes to play around with different lighting styles on the same image to find the best shot.
With digital cameras, it’s much easier and quicker to experiment and create a great photograph. As far as equipment goes, Stan believes a person will instantly become a better photographer by using a tripod, since holding the camera can be distracting. He advises people to break the rules in order to find a unique composition that can really capture the viewer’s eye.
